Mee Udang (prawn mee) is a Malay dish typically served by roadside stalls near the Penang coastal areas, such as Teluk Kumbar. Yahaya Mee Udang is a stall in Kompleks Sri Selera Bayan Baru (Sunshine Market Food Court) that serves mee udang. The address of the stall is No. 37, Kompleks Sri Selera, Jalan Mayang Pasir 3, Bandar Bayan Baru, 11900 Bayan Lepas, Penang (Tel: 017-4669242). The stall also serves other dishes, including different flavours of fried rice (nasi goreng) and mee jawa. Yahaya Mee Udang opens Monday to Saturday, 11AM-9PM.
I came across Yahaya Mee Udang by chance, and decided to try the mee udang here (at least, I don’t have to go all the way to Teluk Kumbar). The price of the mee udang was RM10 per plate, and it came with 5 big prawns. The prawns were fresh. The flavour of the gravy was nice, with sufficient prawn taste. I was quite satisfied with it.
So, if you don’t want to go all the way to Teluk Kumbar, you can also have a plate of mee udang at Yahaya Mee Udang stall in the Sunshine Market Food Court.
