This year’s Chinese New Year celebration in Penang is quite muted, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. However, despite the pandemic, Straits Quay Mall’s management had put up a wonderful Chinese New Year decorations. The decorations, located at the Straits Court area, is fronted by 3 “lions” depicting the lion dance, and lots of red and pink flowers.
Behind the lions is a corridor full of paper lanterns, where visitors can walk through. Walking through the corridor really brings out the Chinese New Year mood.
The other side of the decorations is a long hut-like structure with red cards hanging from golden steel bars. The red cards contain auspicious Chinese characters synonymous to Chinese New Year.
Overall, Straits Quay’s Chinese New Year decorations this year is simple yet wonderful. It definitely brings out the festive mood at the marina mall.
