What to do on a Saturday evening in Penang? It was on 13 June 2017 (Saturday) that I was pondering this question, when I finally decided to bring my family to Straits Quay. Straits Quay is a shopping mall-cum-marina located within the Seri Tanjung Pinang township in Tanjung Tokong.
Not really having a clear reason to visit Straits Quay that evening, we strolled along the marina area, enjoying the evening scenery and admiring the yachts. It turned out to be a very nice, relaxing walk. I normally go to the mall area when visiting Straits Quay, so this is a new experience for me. My kids had a great time running around the wide space, and even made some new friends.
After walking for awhile, we went into the mall, and looked at some kids clothing on sale (I think it was the Poney brand). Later, we went for a quick evening snack at the PappaRich Restaurant (Straits Quay branch), ordering the “roti stim with kaya and butter” (steamed bread with “coconut jam” and butter) and my favourite Iced Kopi-O. The kaya at PappaRich is really delicious with a nice aroma.
That evening turned out to be a nice evening outing with my family at Straits Quay Marina. The next time you have an evening not knowing where to go, I would recommend that you head down to the Straits Quay Marina for a nice stroll.
