When it comes to Penang hokkien mee (Penang prawn noodles), places like the Super Hokkien Mee in One Corner Cafe and 888 Hokkien Mee come to mind. However, there is a hokkien mee stall in Island Glades that are really good, which many people probably do not know about. It is something of a hidden gem. This hokkien mee stall at Island Glades only opens for 1 day per week, on Sunday morning. Business is always very good, and by around 9.15AM, the hokkien mee will be sold out.
The hokkien mee stall operates on the roadside in front of Kedai Runcit Gim Huat (Gim Huat convenience store), beside the A.M. Noshery restaurant. They will deliver the bowls of hokkien mee to nearby coffee shops, so you can still dine there. The hokkien mee itself has a strong flavour, and in my opinion, is quite as good as the Super Hokkien Mee in One Corner Cafe. You get the option of requesting for add-ons like pork ribs and fish balls to your bowl of hokkien mee.
If you are a Penang hokkien mee enthusiast and are feeling adventurous, do head over to Kedai Runcit Gim Huat in Island Glades on a Sunday morning to have a taste of the hokkien mee there.
