The Touch N Go is a prepaid card that can be used to pay tolls on Malaysian highways and the 2 Penang Bridges. It can also be used to pay parking fees at certain shopping complexes.
For Penangites, they can get a Touch N Go card that provides a 20% discount when using the first Penang Bridge (the older Penang Bridge). With this Touch N Go card, the Penang Bridge toll for a car is RM 5.60, instead of the usual RM 7.00. However, there is no discount for the Jambatan Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah (Penang Second Bridge) toll.
How do you get this special Touch N Go card with Penang Bridge discount? Well, it can only be obtained from the Penang Bridge Touch N Go Customer Service Centre. It is located near the first Penang Bridge toll. When you are approaching the toll plaza, keep a look-out on your left for an exit with the sign with the Pusat Khidmat Pelanggan wordings. Drive slower, as it is easy to miss the exit. Take the exit to go to this special Touch N Go card sale centre. The Penang Bridge Touch N Go Customer Service Centre is opened daily from 7 AM to 10 PM.
The address on your identity card (I/C) needs to be a Penang address, in order to be entitled to get the Touch N Go card with Penang Bridge discount. Alternatively, if your I/C’s address is not a Penang address, you need to bring along a utility bill with a Penang address. It normally takes a while to get the Touch N Go card here, so, allocate ample time when going there to get the card.
The Touch N Go card with Penang Bridge discount is a huge saving if you use the Penang Bridge regularly. It is certainly worth the hassle to go to that special Penang Bridge Touch N Go Customer Service Centre to get it.

Hi Din, the utility bill with Penang address doesn’t need to be under your name. It is just to prove that you live in Penang (i.e. the fact that you have the original copy of the utility bill proves that you live at the place). If you rent a house, the utility bill will most likely have the landlord’s name.

I asked the officer (pegawai) there before. He said need to have letter from company certifying that you work there (I assume your company is in Penang island). I believe it is best to use an “Employment Certification Letter” though, if you can get one. Otherwise, you can try with offer letter first, hopefully they can accept it (together with utility bill that proves that you live in Kulim).

I checked the Touch N Go Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) webpage. In most cases, you will be able to get a refund by going to a Touch N Go service centre counter (for example, the one beside Penang Bridge toll plaza, or beside other toll plazas). The FAQ also states that RM5.30 will be deducted every 6 months if the card remains dormant – so, if the card is dormant for too long, it may/may not have money left in them. I would suggest that you visit one of the Touch N Go service centre counters to get a refund. I think you have to go there yourself. A friend of mine was not successful in renewing her Penang Bridge discount Touch N Go card recently, even though she went to the service centre beside Penang Bridge herself. It was because she has an older I/C, which the I/C reader at the service centre cannot read. I would also recommend that you bring along the latest utility bill, just in case.

Either one: Company letter certifying that you work for them, or utility bill with Penang address can be used for getting the Touch N Go card with special Penang Bridge toll discount. As for the price, I don’t remember what is the initial amount loaded in the card. But, it should be quite small, probably RM50 or lower.

No. As far as I know, the Penang Bridge discount is only available for Touch N Go card obtained from the office beside/near the Penang Bridge toll area (note that Touch N Go card obtained from the Penang Bridge toll counters does not have discount).

You should be eligible for the Penang bridge discounted card. Bring along the utility bill of your Penang Island home, and your MyKad. Tell them you live in Penang Island 🙂
It didn’t work. The requirement now is that you either have your Penang address on your MyKad. Or you have a letter from your employer [Penang based] and your utility bills with a Penang address. Or a Penang registered business if you are self employed.

As far as I know, the service centre beside the Penang Bridge should be opened 7 days a week, 7am to 10pm. However, as we are now still in RMCO, I am not sure if they have changed their operating hours.
