Char Koay Teow is one of Penang’s most popular hawker food. There are many good char koay teow stalls all over Penang island. A few months back, on 2 February 2018, I tried the Googgle Man Char Koay Teow at KTG Cafe (Address: 82, 84, Lorong Selamat, 10400 Georgetown, Penang. Tel: 016-4994646). The stall is located on the same road as the “Red Hat Auntie’s Char Koay Teow” stall (Kafe Heng Huat). I think the name “Googgle” comes from the word “goggles”, as the chef wears goggles while frying the char koay teow. The stall is opened from around 11AM to 6PM.
The Googgle Man Char Koay Teow is pretty good. I ordered a plate which came with 3 big prawns, priced at RM10.50. The char koay teow has the important “wok hei”, and tastes good. It definitely qualifies as good Penang char koay teow, in my opinion. The price, however, is quite high for Penang standards.
During my visit, I also ordered the loh bak. The loh bak stall is located right beside the Googgle Man Char Koay Teow stall. I think the taste of the loh bak here is average, but it is OK as a “side dish” to the char koay teow. There are also stalls selling sotong kangkung (cuttlefish), fried oyster and koay teow th’ng at KTG Cafe.
