I visited Cameron Highlands recently on 6 June 2017, driving from Penang all the way to Cameron Highlands. The drive from Penang to Cameron Highlands took me close to 4 hours, including a lunch break.
It was a short family vacation, and we stayed at the Copthorne Hotel Cameron Highlands (2D/1N). The hotel was OK, although it is a bit old, and the cleanliness can be improved. It is located in the Kea Farm area, and I recommend to only stay here if you have a car. One thing I like about Copthorne Hotel Cameron Highlands is that it has restaurants inside, so it is very convenient to get food. During the trip, we had steamboat dinner and buffet breakfast at the hotel, both was nice.
The first day was spent relaxing, and visiting the grocery market in the Kea Farm area. The next day, we visited the Orchids And Rose Garden (Taman Orkid Dan Ros), and the Cameron Lavender Garden. We also bought strawberries and groceries from small stalls along the main Cameron Highlands road.
We visited the Orchids And Rose Garden because my wife like flowers. Entrance fee is RM6 for adults. The garden has some nice varieties of orchids, roses, hibiscus, and other flowers. But, I think some of the areas can do with better upkeep, considering visitors are paying to enter.
The next place we visited (after lunch) was the Cameron Lavender Garden. The entrance fee is RM8 for adults. This is a nice flower garden with many Lavender species, and other flowers. Great place to take photo. There is also a small strawberry farm in the garden, where you can pick your own strawberries. I like this place, even though it is a bit “touristy”.
After the visit to Cameron Lavender Garden, we drove back to Penang. The drive from Cameron Highlands back to Penang took slightly over 3 hours.
