There is a famous Penang curry mee stall at Lebuh Kimberley that goes by the name Tua Pui Curry Mee, In the Hokkien dialect, “Tua Pui” means fat, but this curry mee stall is not managed by a fat guy though. Tua Pui Curry Mee used to operate along Weld Quay, but have now moved to its current location on Lebuh Kimberley (Address: 23, Lebuh Kimberley, 10100 Georgetown, Penang. Tel: 016-4007748).
The curry mee served here is creamier compared to other Penang curry mee stalls. The curry tastes almost like those found in Mainland Penang or Kedah. The Penang curry mee ingredients are all there, including cuttlefish, cockles, coagulated pig’s blood, tao pok, and mint leaves. In addition, Tua Pui Curry Mee provides add-ons that customers can order. The add-ons are fish ball, curry chicken, and chicken innards. Here is a picture of a bowl of Tua Pui Curry Mee with chicken innards:
The Tua Pui Curry Mee shop is cool and comfortable. I have been here a few times in the morning around 10AM, and surprisingly, the place was not busy. I normally come here when I want a creamier version of Penang curry mee.
Other Penang curry mee stalls that I go to are:
1) Curry Mee Stall at Genting Cafe, Island Glades.
2) Curry Mee Stall at Lee Huat Cafe, opposite Lam Wah Ee Hospital.
3) Curry Mee Stall at Lorong Seratus Tahun.
4) Kuantan Road Curry Mee Stall at Hai Beng Coffee Shop, Pulau Tikus.
