Deepavali (Diwali) this year coincides with the country’s reopening of the economy and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. With inter-state travelling now allowed for those fully vaccinated, many visitors thronged to Penang during Deepavali, taking advantage of the public holiday. Gurney Plaza is one of the people’s favourites, judging from the large number of people visiting the mall.
In conjunction with this year’s Deepavali celebrations, Gurney Plaza has put up a wonderful decoration at its Gurney Drive entrance. Going into the mall, visitors are greeted by the Happy Elephant, a symbolic representation of knowledge, power and the gentle strength of God. The Elephant is surrounded by a Kolam (Rangoli) design, flowers, colourful royal umbrellas, and other decorations. It definitely brings up the spirit of the Deepavali celebrations, and presents visitors with an excellent photo-taking opportunity.
Have a happy, safe and blessed Deepavali!
