Northam Beach Cafe is a food court located along the beach stretch of Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah (Address: 58, Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah, 10050 Georgetown, Penang). The road, Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah is formerly known as Northam Road, where the food court got its name from. Northam Beach Cafe is open in the evening, roughly around 5.30PM to midnight. There is free parking available.
The attractiveness of Northam Beach Cafe is its environment. Located right next to the sea, it is breezy. You can smell the sea and listen to the waves while enjoying your food. Naturally, people like to come here to eat, drink and hang out with friends and families.
There are also live performances by “veteran” singers and musicians. Sometimes, groups of people will start dancing in front of the stage area.
There are quite a good variety of Penang hawker food available at Northam Beach Cafe, including grilled fish, fried oyster, satay, belacan chicken, hokkien mee, char koay teow, sar hor fun, wan tan mee, chee cheong fun, laksa, tomyam noodles, popiah, spaghetti and others. There are also mini restaurants serving seafood and Thai-style meals. The drinks served here are of higher quality/consistency compared to most regular coffee shops, in the sense that sufficient ingredients are used, and the drinks are not “watered down”. Cold beers are available, of course.
