PappaRich is a chain “kopitiam”-styled restaurants with branches all over Malaysia and some international locations. It serves local Malaysian food, including nasi lemak, mee goreng, char koay teow, curry mee, laksa, half-boiled egg, kaya-butter toast, and many other dishes. It is a “kopitiam”-styled restaurant, so you can find drinks that are normally served in local coffee shops, like kopi-o, teh-o, teh tarik, Milo, honey lemon, syrup drinks, cendol, and many others.
Even though the prices of food at PappaRich restaurants are higher than regular coffee shops, the air-conditioned environment and reasonably good food makes it a worthwhile location to dine in. It is also a good place to introduce local Malaysian food to Westerners, who are normally more comfortable dining in an air-conditioned restaurant. It amazes me that PappaRich is able to offer many varieties of local food, with reasonably high quality in terms of taste. Of course, we cannot compare PappaRich to our Penang hawkers, who are specialists in their respective food categories.
